Extra Loud Alarm Clock - The Loudest of Them All at 120 Decibels

The Screaming Meanie 220 has the highest decibel alarm available today (based on our research). It comes in at 120 decibels, which is the same general decibel level as an emergency siren on an ambulance.

It was originally called the Screaming Beekin and was designed for cross country truckers. The intent was to wake truckers while sleeping in their truck with the diesel engine idling. Within the last few years it was renamed the Screaming Meanie 220.

Manufactured by Pacific Cornetta, it has a little brother called the Screaming Meanie 110 (we will not deal with in this writing). The 220 comes in 3 colors, blue, gray and red. It offers a glow in the dark feature for easy access at night and a homing feature that can be activated in case of injury or accident. The homing signal can be heard up to 1 mile during emergency situations. The unit is light and fully portable. It operates on 1 9V battery and comes with a built in clip for attaching to the belt.

In addition to truckers, it has established quite a following of motor cycle enthusiasts. Cyclists not only use it as a wake up device, but as a notification device that can be heard over the engine sound while riding.

When alarming, it activates for 10 seconds every 5 minutes until the alarm is shut off. It is equipped with a switch for three volume settings allowing the user to predetermine loudness when activated:

Low Setting = 70 decibels
Medium Setting = 95 decibels
High Setting = 120 decibels
The next highest decibel extra aloud alarm clocks we could find, as of this writing, were the some of the Sonic Boom series that offer alarms up to 113 decibels.

We read 6 reviews of the Screaming Meanie 220 and all were positive. Some of the other alarms reviewed in the past have better looks than this one, but none have better functionality. You can expect to pay about $30 for the 220 series. If you are after functionality rather than looks, this will be a wise investment.
